- 1 large head of cabbage, leaves separated
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce (sugar-free if desired)
- 2 cups (16 oz) ricotta cheese
- 2 cups (8 oz) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup (4 oz) grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Once the meat is cooked, stir in the marinara sauce and bring to a simmer.
- In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- In a large baking dish, spread a layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of cabbage leaves over the sauce, followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture, and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce and topped with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
