Description
A creamy and rich chocolate flan that’s perfect for serving a crowd. This easy Mexican dessert combines the flavors of chocolate and caramel, creating a delightful treat for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it becomes a golden brown caramel. Carefully pour the caramel into a 9-inch round cake pan, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly.
- In a blender, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the chocolate mixture over the caramel in the cake pan.
- Place the cake pan in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the cake pan (this creates a water bath).
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert it onto a serving platter. The caramel will flow over the flan.
Notes
- This flan can be made a day in advance, making it perfect for parties.
- You can garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an extra touch.
