Ingredients

  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream
  • as desired Food coloring (optional)
  • as desired Graduation-themed decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the buttercream frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  8. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix on low speed until combined. Add the heavy cream and beat on high speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  9. If desired, add food coloring to the frosting to match your graduation theme.
  10. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top.
  11. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  12. Decorate with graduation-themed decorations as desired.
  13. Slice, serve, and enjoy your perfect graduation cake!
