  • Author: ushinzomr

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring (various colors for decoration)
  • Decorative sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto the prepared baking sheets. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  5. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden. Let cool on wire racks before decorating.

Notes

  • For best flavor, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
  • Use graduation-themed cookie cutters for fun shapes like caps and diplomas.
  • Store decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
