Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Colorful sprinkles for decoration
  • Fresh flowers for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 6-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the three prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, layer the cakes with buttercream frosting in between each layer.
  10. Frost the top and sides of the cake with remaining buttercream.
  11. Decorate with colorful sprinkles and fresh flowers if desired.
  12. Slice and serve to celebrate Mother’s Day!
