Description
This healthy orange chicken recipe features tender chicken pieces tossed in a homemade orange sauce that’s both sweet and tangy, making it a perfect guilt-free alternative to the classic takeout dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (low sodium)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine orange juice, soy sauce, honey, cornstarch, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour the orange sauce over the cooked chicken in the skillet. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the chicken.
- Serve the orange chicken hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- For extra crunch, add some steamed broccoli or bell peppers to the skillet when cooking the chicken.
- This dish pairs well with brown rice or cauliflower rice for a healthier option.
