Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- Toppings: sea salt, fresh herbs, olives, cherry tomatoes (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet.
- Gently stretch and press the dough to fit the baking sheet. Dimple the surface with your fingers and add your desired toppings.
- Let the dough rise again for 20-30 minutes, then bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For a softer texture, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
- Experiment with different toppings like garlic, rosemary, or cheese for added flavor.
- Let the focaccia cool slightly before slicing to retain its fluffiness.
