Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or basil), chopped
  • Coarse sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet.
  6. Gently stretch the dough to fit the baking sheet, then use your fingers to create dimples all over the surface.
  7. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with fresh herbs and coarse sea salt.
  8. Cover and let it rise for another 20-30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  10. Bake the focaccia for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add garlic or other spices to the olive oil before drizzling.
  • This focaccia can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
